Beautiful Scars

I know you’ve known pain, I can see it in your eyes

You say it doesn’t hurt and to me that’s no surprise

You’ve forgotten how to laugh and no one sees your smile

You hide away your emotions ’cause the world has been so vile

Your tears could fill a river but they’ve dried up long ago

Some people think they relate but they really don’t know

Even since your youth, you’ve had a heart of gold

But the trauma from your wounds made you callused and cold

You have trouble believing people ’cause you’ve been treated so unjust

Finally, you let your guard down and decide to give them your trust

Your eyes are filled with peace now and light up like the stars

Your past is not your prison and you’ve got some beautiful scars
