Rejection

Have you ever experienced rejection? If you’re human, I’m sure that you have. Maybe you’ve received it from a family member, an employer, a co-worker, a friend, or a significant other.

How did you handle it? Did you internalize it? Did you turn to drugs or alcohol to numb it? Or maybe you turned to meaningless sex with strangers to feel accepted for just a few minutes.

Rejection hurts deep and can be hard to overcome but, it’s not impossible. There is something to be said about the way that it is handled. Some people are able to let it roll off of their backs and move forward fairly quickly. I admire those people. Currently, I am not one of those and I am working toward that because I am determined to be one of those people. I struggle with taking rejection personally and tend to try to go above and beyond to change the perception of the person that rejected me. I think, if I can just change something in myself, they’ll accept me or accept what I have to offer. Can you relate?

I know that not everyone will be cheering for this blog. I know that at some point there will be criticism and hurtful words said on social media platforms. When that occurs, I hope to remember that is not personal to me. I have to be prepared to be rejected in this industry that I want to pursue. I also have to learn that I can not make every single person happy. I’m not coffee or chocolate!

This world has a lot of hate in it and if I can be just a little light of hope in it for one person, my purpose is complete. If you take anything away from this post, I want you to know that rejection does not measure your worth. It does not mean that you are not enough. It does not mean that it is the end of the road on your dream. Keep pushing. Keep climbing. DO NOT QUIT.

I love the following quote, “The dream is free, the journey is not.”- John Maxwell, Rise Podcast with Rachel Hollis, Episode 82: What Success Really Means.

It takes work. It takes dedication to make our dream come true. It is not handed to us and not everyone wants to see us succeed.

Remember, if you have something etched on your heart to achieve, take the first step. It may be a dream. It may be eating healthier. It may be getting into shape. It may be forgiving someone who hurt you. Whatever your desire, DO NOT LET THE FEAR REJECTION STOP YOU!!! You got this!!!
